Highride – a family affair
Highride Adventures is locally owned and operated by Aaron and Louise Duthie who are proudly 100% Kiwi born and bred.
Aaron's love affair with the Te Anau area started from a very young age on family holidays, then later grew as he discovered some of his favourite hunting grounds. Aaron was born and raised on a farm in Otago surrounded by a horse loving Mum and bike loving brothers. Aaron spent seven years as a motorcycle mechanic before returning to farming and his love of the outdoors.
Louise was also raised in Otago, has been horseriding from a young age and spending time in the great outdoors at every opportunity. Louise is a qualified Architectural Draughtsperson but after travelling together for a year, decided the office was not the place for her. Instead Aaron and Louise settled in Te Anau and when Highride Adventures came up for sale at the start of 2010, rose to the challenge and havn't looked back.
Even while juggling a young family, either Aaron or Louise personally guide at least 60% of the tours that Highride operate. Their commitment to you is to provide personal but professional experiences on horseback and quadbike whilst showcasing the beautiful Te Anau area.
Our Staff
This season will be Fraser's fifth year as a quad bike guide for Highride Adventures. Fraser is an ex farmer so has spent 45 years on New Zealand farms and has 30+ years of quad biking experience. Fraser is married with 2 children, and one grandson who he loves to spend time with. He is fortunate enough to have all his close family living nearby so his hobbies involve spending time with family, bowls, fishing, curling and sharing his love and knowledge of the outdoors with people.
A long term resident of Te Anau, Melissa has been riding horses since the age of 10 when she joined the local pony club, then took up Western Riding where she travelled to many shows throughout New Zealand. Melissa is currently studying Natural Horsemanship and working towards her Parelli Level 1 Certificate with her miniature pony and donkey. Melissa is passionate about animals and this can be seen on her lifestyle block which is home to many unwanted and rescued animals. She now says she has her 'dream job' and loves to see visitors experience an area of Te Anau unseen by most.
